Proper care is essential for preserving the quality of your furniture, particularly when it is exposed to the elements outdoors. While low-maintenance furniture is designed to simplify upkeep, it is not entirely self-cleaning. Instead, it requires minimal effort and the use of cost-effective cleaning products. As the owner, it is your responsibility to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the longevity of your investment. To assist you, we have curated a comprehensive guide with Care & Maintenance tips for your outdoor furniture:

How to Clean Sunbrella® Outdoor Fabric

One of the best ways to keep Sunbrella fabrics looking good is to brush off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabrics and wipe up spills or clean soon after a stain occurs. The quicker you clean spills and stains, the easier they can be to remove.

For a new spill or stain on your Sunbrella fabric:

1) Blot Liquid Spills: Gently blot (do not rub) any liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth to absorb the liquid. For oil-based spills, apply an absorbent material, such as cornstarch, and then gently scrape away using a straight edge.

2) Apply a Mild Cleaning Solution: Spray the fabric with a mild cleaning solution made of soap (such as Dawn or Woolite) diluted in water. Sunbrella recommends using 303® Multipurpose Cleaner, available for purchase at our showrooms, for optimal results.

3) Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the fabric thoroughly with water to ensure all soap residue is removed.

4) Air Dry: Allow the fabric to air dry. Drying time will vary depending on environmental factors such as temperature, sun exposure, wind, and humidity.

If the upgrade to Quick Dry Foam was not selected, your cushions may absorb some water or moisture during the cleaning process, which could result in an extended drying time. In this case, it is recommended to stand the cushions upright with the zippers facing down to promote drainage and improve air circulation. Do not remove the cushion covers and place them in the clothes dryer, as doing so may cause them to shrink, making reattaching them nearly impossible.

If the stain persists after your initial attempt, follow these next steps:

1) Prepare the Cushion for Cleaning: Place the entire cushion flat on a clean surface. Do not remove the fabric cover from the foam insert.

2) Apply Bleach to Targeted Areas: Spray undiluted bleach directly onto the stained spots. Allow it to sit for a few minutes.

3) Thoroughly Wet the Cushion: Using a hose, wet the entire cushion evenly, including the sides and bottom. This ensures a uniform cleaning process.

4) Scrub with a Cleaning Solution: Mix dish soap and vinegar to create a foamy solution. Using a soft brush, gently scrub the entire cushion, not just the stained areas, to achieve consistent cleaning.

5) Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the cushion well with the hose, ensuring all soap and bleach are washed away.

6) Air Dry: Position the cushion on its edge to allow faster drainage. On a warm, sunny day, the cushion should dry completely in approximately three hours.

Helpful Hints and Notes:

– Use a soft brush for cleaning. Avoid using abrasive cleaning methods, such as scrubbing or hard-bristle brushes.
– Sunbrella fabric should only be air-dried. Do not remove cushion covers and place them in a clothes dryer.
– White vinegar can help prevent water marks during the drying process.
– Sunbrella fabrics are bleach-resistant. The colour is inside the fabric, mixed in vats at the time of manufacture.
– When using bleach or other chemical solvents, protect the surrounding area to prevent discolouration of non-Sunbrella fabrics. Always rinse Sunbrella thoroughly, repeating if needed.
– For any wrinkles in the fabric, use an iron on the synthetic setting. As iron temperatures may vary, test on a small, inconspicuous area first before proceeding with the entire piece.
– Do not use a steamer or set the iron to the steam setting.
– While many stains can be removed, complete stain removal is not guaranteed.
– If washing is unsuccessful, bring the cushion back to ARD Outdoor. ARD Outdoor will remove the cover and send it for a professional dry cleaning service. If the stain persists and the fabric is still in production and in-stock, ARD can create a new cover.

Why Choose Sunbrella

Indoor Durability challenge

Sunbrella fabrics are treated with a proprietary water and stain repellent finish that is designed to last for several years, but may require replenishing after a thorough cleaning. Sunbrella recommends 303® Fabric Guard™, available to purchase at ARD Outdoor’s showroom.

Steps for Retreatment Application:

1) Clean the Sunbrella Fabric: Begin by cleaning the fabric using one of the recommended cleaning methods to ensure it is free from dirt and stains.

2) Allow the Fabric to Dry Completely: After cleaning, let the fabric air dry thoroughly before applying the retreatment.

3) Apply the Retreatment: In a well-ventilated area, apply the retreatment product according to the instructions on the container for best results.

Sunbrella fabrics are versatile and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. However, the cleaning methods should be slightly adjusted based on the environment, due to differences in the fabrication and manufacturing of the furniture. It is recommended to follow the specific cleaning instructions tailored to each application for optimal care and longevity.

How to Clean & Maintain Resin/Poly-Wicker Frames

1) Remove Cushions: Start by removing any cushions from your furniture. You can safely soak the frame in water since it’s waterproof. Use a garden hose or a bucket of warm water for this step.

2) Clean with Soap Solution: Spray the furniture down, then apply a soap mixture. Combine approximately ¼ cup (60 ml) of mild detergent or dish soap with 1 gallon (3 liters) of warm water. Moisten a soft-bristle brush in the solution.

3) Scrub the Frame: Gently scrub away any dirt from the wicker using the soft-bristle brush. The soap solution will help loosen dirt, making it easier to rinse off. Be sure to clean between the hand-woven wicker and use the soft brush to reach harder-to-clean areas.

4) Remove Tree Sap: For tree sap, use Goo-Gone or a similar product. Note: Rinse thoroughly after use, as prolonged exposure to grime-removing agents may discolour the weave.

5) Rinse Thoroughly: After scrubbing, rinse the furniture with a garden hose or a bucket of water until all soap residue is removed. Allow the furniture to dry in the sun for at least two hours. Drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, sun exposure, and wind.

6) Reassemble and Enjoy: Once the furniture is dry, return the cushions.

How to Clean & Maintain Concrete

Fiber Reinforced Natural Concrete (FRC)

Our concrete products are comprised of natural materials, granite stone powder, Portland cement, nylon net and water. Much like any natural material such as wood or stone, concrete is a porous material. We have sealed your concrete with a wax sealer that will provide active protection against staining. To ensure the lasting beauty of your concrete surfaces we recommend reviewing and practicing the following care and maintenance instructions.

After Installation

The product has been sealed for protection against moisture and staining. Once the pieces have been waxed we recommend allowing them to remain free of objects on the surface for at least 6 to 12 hours. This enables the wax to penetrate the material evenly before the beginning of regular use. The wax we use is a paraffin based substance that hardens the material and protects the surface from staining.

Cleaning your Product

Clean your FRC product using mild soap (such as dish soap) and water. Do not use heavy abrasive, bleach-based, or ammoniated cleansers. Use of such cleansers will wear down the wax protection and result in less stain resistance. We do not recommend use of most natural cleansers (which are often citrus based), as the cleaning agent is typically highly acidic and can damage natural materials.

Regular Maintenance

Re-wax periodically. Waxing your product regularly is a quick and easy process that will provide additional protection against staining. Wax once within 2 months of installation of your product and every 3 to 6 months thereafter, depending on use and location. If the product is placed outside, wax it well before winter. Cover and raise off the ground! The recommended product for this is our Repair and Polish Wax or any other commercially available Stone floor wax on paraffin base.

Avoiding Stains

Regular food preparation will not stain the concrete as the sealer and wax serve as active barriers. In the event that the coating is knowingly cut, scraped, or damaged, new wax should be reapplied. Spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. While the waxing performs well against stains from oils and acidic materials, prolonged exposure may cause penetration of the sealer and possible discolouration.

Expect occasional rings to appear from unknown liquids. Oils in particular can penetrate the surface if forced in from the weight of a glass or jar. Wiping up oil spills can minimize staining.

Please note that bath oils in particular should not be used as they will cause staining from being left in contact with the surface of the concrete for too long. The first stain is always the worst.

Expect the wear of your product to contribute to its uniqueness. Using felt or rubber feet pads is recommended for the bottom surfaces of all objects left to remain on the surface of your product indefinitely, especially unglazed ceramics such as terracotta pots. Unglazed ceramics compete for residue moisture in the concrete and may cause discolouration. Do not place hot objects on the surface as they may cause discolouration. Using a trivet is recommended. At any point, refrain from putting blue painter’s tape or other adhesives directly on the product.

Although not considered a defect, non-structural hairline cracks are possible and may result from shrinkage and the natural curing process. If hairline cracks do appear, immediately apply a thick coat of wax and rub in well to prevent moisture from seeping into the cracks and causing discolouration. Re-wax the area and surrounding surfaces periodically as detailed above.

Dekko Concrete

Dekko fire pits are specially designed to last a lifetime while requiring little to no additional maintenance or care. This is because all of our products are made out of 100% pure proprietary concrete that won’t peel, flake or require sealant.

Concrete can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. Never use abrasives or strong chemicals as they may further stain the surface. A spill should be cleaned immediately by carefully blotting the spill with a clean and damp white towel. Be sure to blot the affected area and avoid wiping, as this may force the stain deeper into the surface of your fire pit. If the stain persists, please contact our staff at Dekko for a colour-matched touch up kit.

How to Clean & Maintain Stainless Steel and Aluminum Frames

Use a soft, damp cloth with warm, soapy water to wipe down aluminum surfaces. Follow with a soft, dry cloth to polish, if needed. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners, brushes, or pads, as they can damage the finish and void the warranty.

How to Clean & Polish Streak-Free Glass Table Tops

Maintaining a clean, streak-free glass table is essential for a polished, inviting look. Achieving this requires only a few simple items: distilled water, a squirt bottle, a microfiber cloth, vinegar, and newspaper.

1) Clear the Table Top: Start by using a microfibre cloth to remove any dust or non-sticky spills.

2) Spray with Water: Next, spray the table with plain hot water using a squirt bottle. Hot water works best as it leaves not streaks behind.

3) Wipe the Table: Take a dry, clean microfibre cloth and wipe down the glass surface, cleaning up any sticky spills as you go. Repeat the spraying and wiping steps in necessary to remove all dirt and debris.

4) Tackle Stubborn Stains: For any persistent stains or spills, apply straight vinegar. Use a clean, dry microfibre cloth to wipe away the vinegar and finish the cleaning process.

5) Polish for Added Shine: Use a crumpled newspaper to polish the surface. This will not only add sparkle, but also remove any lingering fluff from the cloth.
